Pet Portrait Image Guidelines

The most important part of your order, crucial to the quality of the final pet portrait, is the quality of the image you upload. Let's review the following tips and guidelines to make sure yours is just right.

Image Guidelines:

  • Take a photo or choose an existing photo that is taken in daylight or in a brightly lit room.
  • Make sure your pet is looking directly at the camera at eye level, facing forward. Other positions are acceptable, but your pet will be shown in that position in the final portrait.
  • Use a smartphone or high quality camera
  • Ensure the whole face & neck is visible and not in shadows.
  • Avoid overly filtered photos to ensure we correctly capture your pet's coloring.

Please note: collars, leashes, bows, hats, and other cute outfits will NOT always be illustrated in your final portrait.

Good

  • Pet facing camera at eye level
  • Great lighting
  • Face & neck are clearly visible

Bad

  • Angled face & not at eye level
  • Low lighting & heavy shadows

Bad

  • Pet laying down
  • Head & neck not completely visible

Not sure whether your images will work?

Fill out the form below and I'll let you know if I can work with what you have. Many portraits I create are pet memorials and the pets have already passed away, so we understand it's not always possible to follow all of the guidelines above.

In many cases, I can still make it work.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a good quality photo for my custom pet portrait?

To get the best result, please send a clear, high-resolution photo of your pet. The photo should be well-lit, with your pet in focus and visible from a front-facing or profile angle. Avoid blurry images, heavy shadows, awkward poses and where their head and neck are not clearly visible. The clearer the photo, the better the final product will be! Check out my Pet Portrait Image Guidelines to see examples.

How do I specify the color palette for my custom portrait?

When placing your order, feel free to specify any color preferences in the "Personalized" text box. You can mention colors that best represent your pet’s personality, or you can leave it up to me to create a vibrant, unique palette inspired by your pet’s features!

How do I place a custom order?

To place your custom order, simply:
1️⃣ Choose the product (framed print, phone case, poster, etc.).
2️⃣ Choose color palette and make note of any personalizations.
3️⃣ Upload your pet's image.
4️⃣ I’ll take it from there!

How long does it take to receive my order?

Proofs are sent to your email within 3 days for your approval, after approval, production takes 2-7 days, and standard domestic shipping takes 2-5 days. International shipping can take up to 30 days.

Can I see a proof of the portrait before it’s finalized?

Yes! Once I’ve completed your custom portrait, I’ll send you a digital proof for approval. You can request adjustments at this stage if needed. I’ll only proceed with printing or production once you’re completely satisfied with the final design!

What if I want multiple pets in the portrait?

No problem! Simply select the product listing showing the number of pets that you would like in your portrait. Please mention any specific layout or positioning requests in the "Personalization Request" box!

Can I get my custom pet portrait on other products besides the ones listed?

Yes! If you have a specific product in mind (such as mugs, tote bags, or other custom items), feel free to contact me, and I’ll let you know if it can be made with your custom pet portrait. Contact Me Today

What is your Exchange & Return policy if I am not happy with my pet portrait?

Once your order is placed, I’ll send you ONE proof of your custom portrait for approval. Edits are always welcome during the proofing stage, and I’m happy to work with you to make any adjustments until it’s just right! After the proof is approved, your portrait will be sent to the printers. If for any reason the final product doesn’t match what was shown in the proof, we can discuss a refund or exchange. My goal is for you to absolutely love your portrait, which is why the proofing process is in place. Please note that all sales on custom orders are final once the proof has been approved.
